poverty in the inner city frequently, as a bonus, includes sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect.

That is true but you (or the person that I replied to if it was not you I've been replying to so many posts tonight that I'm losing track) said that it was worse. The fact that the problems both go together doesn't mean that one of them is worse then another. It appears that I misunderstood what you meant by that post, but the post left itself open to being misunderstood.

Most people, even liberals, have written the people there off. They say the problems are too complex. That what is required is too great. And yet there are people who picket at abortion clinics.

The aims of the people protesting at the abortion clinics are not easy but they are simpler then (whether or not they are easier then) helping the people in the inner city or other poor areas. To a large extent any help for such people is going to have to come from themselves. Other people can give a helping hand and encouragement but the changes you suggest will only make an impact on the margin, they will not end or even massivly reduce child abuse IMO. They will also not end poverty.
