Re: 6185/6185i 5185/5185i

Gets a little confusing. We'll nail it yet. <g>

My understanding is a little different than yours in a couple of regards.

<< the 6185 is a upgraded data capable version of the 5185i.>>

Verizon is not considering the 6185 but the 6185i. Difference in the models is the antenna which I think is what the 'i' suffix indicates, and the 6185i will have Nokia's microbrowser. I don't think the 6185 (which once was stocked at Sprint) has the microbrowser but maybe it did.

<< Verizon will not release the 6185i without messaging the 5185 is bare bones and will not have messaging or data according to the press release ... Not sure I don't think it was ever the plan to have messaging in the 5185i its selling as far as I know. >>

The 5185i is definitely messaging capable and was originally sold with that capability. It is not being sold with that capability today, although the capability is in the phone and the 6185i messaging capability is supposedly identical to the 5185i.

The wording I have seen from financial analysts is that Verizon will not release on the 6185i until the problems with 5185i messaging is resolved, and that the 6185i is the key product that Nokia is hoping to sell into Verizon, until more updated models are introduced. No question that series of Nokia is long in the tooth
