That's in today's Washington Post. I read it, and wondered about it. But even though I am a member of the Maryland bar I almost never practice there, so I can't comment. (Dues are only $85 a year, and once in a blue moon I do get a case there.) The thing that seemed odd was the implication that the judge and prosecutors agreed in advance to put on a show by agreeing in advance that the sentence would be reduced later - that just doesn't seem consistent with the world I know. It's told from the point of view of the family of the victims - who don't necessarily understand what really happened.
