regarding they should "force some kind of accountibility over there" (at yahoo)..... you are absolutely correct about the yahoo boards being crude and rude and beyond. the spam alone will drive you off the site, but the extreme profanity and racist content is simply unmatched anywhere else. yahoo's answer to user complaints about all this? put the offending member's ID on your ignore list. so everyone has an allotment of 100 people they can place on ignore. the allotment gets used up in like four days of using a board. then you are forced to see all of the crap again. but ultimately, imo, the members are to blame. i mean that. they don't take a stand collectively against these violations. granted, they feel extremely overwhelmed by it all, but some of us (particularly here on si) know that spam and personal attacks won't fly in an environment where members demand that something be done. so why go there, one might ask? because with the dwindling post numbers here on si, i have found yahoo boards to be a source of much more timely breaking stories. there really are nuggets among all that crap. but man, is it ever brutal trying to wade through it all to get to them. :) mark
