Paul,

SHV = Standard High Volume

Hmm... They have an acronym for that?

I think it would be a MAJOR MIRACLE for AMD to capture 10 to 20% of this market.

That's why I said I would be extremely happy if it happened.

Especially since they promised SMP MuSKANGS in December 1999 and are essentially 1 1/2 years late.

I am not sure if it is a good use of the bandwidth to repeat half truths. I think we have Scumbria for that.

AMD may have had a plan to design a SMP version of their 750 chipset, but that plan was killed long time ago in favor of the DDR based 760 chipsets. These chipsets, based on the shareholder meeting in April 2000 were supposed to be delivered in Q4 2000. The single processor version made it out in Q4 2000 or Q1 2001, depends on how you count, and the dual processor version should be available in Q2 2001, or 2 quarters late.

Mustang core products are going to be late 1 quarter, and as far as making the large cache version of the chip, I guess it will depend on the enthusiasm of the OEMs. AMD is not going to release and support a low volume chip just for the DIY market.

Hell - AMD is starting to make Intel's Itanium effort very credible !

AMD would have to be without SMP until 2004 to match the lateness of Itanium.
