Re: SGI Installs First Itanium(TM) Processor Based System at Ohio Supercomputer Center
Installation at Premier National University Computing Facility Enables Users to Start Porting Codes to Itanium Architecture

Does it run as fast as Pentium 200? Or is it more like a 133?

All these "prototype" systems and not a peep regarding comparative benchmarks to judge the performance of this boondoggle. What happened to the years of Intel spending $100s of millions of dollars per year to insure properly compiled software would be available at system launch? Most users don't code in assembler these days, and it looks like assembler is what it takes to get any performance out of Itanic. What about windows for Itanic? What about Visual Studio for Itanic? What about Office for Itanic? What about SQL Server for Itanic?

Is that why Itanic is called the Perpetual Prototype Program?
