Sure, and the big OEMs are developing sub 1K servers too, around Intel. Unless a smaller company develops something really different, like some appear to be around Transmeta chips, the big OEMs get most of the business.

IMO, one of the challenges Intel faces is as AMD's fabs are able to produce more and more chips, it might cause uP prices to fall at a faster rate.....

True, and then product differentiation becomes important. You've got to make them want your product more with more innovation. AMD so far has been a follower in that regard. They may build a better mousetrap once in a while (once), but they don't do anything really new.
