MW - I never qiuite understood what the British and Germans were offering for the $90 bn that they conned their telcos into paying.

I mean if you look at the website of the UK Radio authority all they are giving is frequency for 20 years. They even have a caceat that new technology may arise which allows existing license holders the current segments to operate broadband services on those segments, presumably without any extra fee.

Well that got me wondering whether there might be a mobile operator in Gt Britain who would be willing to install cdma2000 and run it over his existing GSM segment in order to get a bunch of mobile data users without paying for a UMTS license.

Just a thought. Orange might want to do that as it would give them one hell of an edge. I can't remember if tehy participated in the 3G license auction.

Best regards,

L
