I do not believe in inherent human rights I guess we will just have to disagree about this then. I do believe that long-term utility is best served when societies assert and protect the broadest possible range of rights and freedoms, on their own initiative. Free societies with protected rights are more productive, and are more pleasant places to live. When you define what utility is and how it is measured and why you want it, it still seems to call for a value judgement based on intangibles at some point. Tim
