EXPE - has agreements with airlines to provide their websites with the booking engine and also ticketing and fulfillment. Most airlines will bypass EXPE in 2001 with their own direct connections to their native reservations systems, thereby eliminating a fee of $10 per ticket plus monthly maintenance and licensing costs.

In addition, EXPE faces competition from many new sites such as Biztravel, Travelocity, Trip.com, GetThere.com, Hotwire, and Orbitz to name a few. Orbitz will be the rule breaker and also the category killer as they have alliances with 6 major international carriers and 9 regionals and provides opague pricing.

I would short most of the online agencies as their roles will diminish as more airlines come out with their own products. Southwest Airlines does 30% of business through their own site. Most airlines currently are about 2-10%. That number will only increase, not decrease, in the future.
