deferred earnings at msft... as the release of win95 approached, the execs at msft realized there would be a huge earnings spike from it, and then that earnings would be flat or down.

so they came up with this 'deferred earnings' shenanigan where the earnings from win95 were siphoned out onto the quarterly reports, over a period of years.

from what i've seen they were still milking early win95 earnings as late as '99.

what it meant to me was that i would not be able to cash out on the crest of a huge earnings wave. instead everything was measured.

it really pissed me off at the time. it was like a knife in the back from those bozos.
