He wants to cut taxes and increase defense spending. The defense increase at least for now is so small that it would not be a signifigant issue in balanceing the budget. Obviously this is not compatible with paying off the debt. It is possibly not compatible but not obviously so. Tax cut or no tax cut the main factor will be getting spending under control. If this can be done paying off the debt will be easy. If this can not be done then stopping the tax cut might not matter that much. Tim
