Dan,

The problem with P4 is slow internals in the core (i.e. single decoder and a small single-ported cache.)

It is a severely imbalanced design which helps out low IPC apps (DRAM bandwidth limited), but performs poorly on real CPU benchmarks.

It kind of makes you wonder what they were smoking up in Portland.
