It is interesting that you mention the last election. The one who had not voted Republican in a decade told me that she had an extraordinarily difficult time voting for Gore. She did, but only because of the Presidential power of judicial appointment.

She and many of her friends discussed this for quite some time at their regular "moms' night out" bunco games. They thought that, if Gore won, it would be interpreted as a vindication of Clinton's personal infidelities, and none of them wanted that. In the end, as many said they voted for Bush as for Gore, although almost all of the group are Democrats or independents who usually vote for the Democratic Party candidate (and none of them thought Clinton should be impeached).

Ylang---There is no question that one of the main reasons that Gore lost was because of Clinton's inability to control his sexual neuroses. Completely unfair, but completely true--particularly in the middle part of the country. Check this out: Nebraska, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota all have one or more Democratic senators (SD and ND have two)--yet, in ALL of those states, Gore was beaten by Bush by more than 20% (and Nebraska it was almost 30%!). Why--the only answer that I can think of is that it was moral revulsion against Bill Clinton--folks in the middle part of the country simply don't live their lives like he did, and they expressed their outrage at the polls...
