You know, this realplayer is a pain in the butt. I don't want it to start on start up so I go to system information and turn it off. Every time I open something with realplayer, the first thing the damn program does is go back in there and recheck that box. What an annoyance. Anyway to make it just stay off unless I decide to call for it?

I think you are thinking about Service Pack 1 on CD, that at one time was 19.95, but now it's 5.00, that covers shipping and handling.
microsoft.com

When I bought Windows 98SE, I paid almost 100 bucks for it.

Check the papers, there are people always selling OS and other software in there.
