"Paul DeMone is a great analyst too,"

I think the things that lead Paul astray was his high regard for Intel's engineers and the fact that there are transistors that seem to do nothing but heat the room. Now I had a post on JC's after the introduction of the P4 where I speculated that there were a lot of hastily ripped out sections in the P4 that left a lot of uncleaned up remnants. Now it may be that those "dark transistors" will be used in the future when Intel does a shrink to 0.13 micron and starts putting back in those parts that were ripped out.

Dan,

Just reading Hans's site, I came across this speculation:

The recent revelation of the SOI version of Motorola's G4+ codenamed Apollo in HIP6 (180 nm) opens the possibility of an SOI variant of the 180 nm Palomino which would increase performance by 25% or so and or reduce power consumption for mobile versions.

That's an interesting speculation, and if it's true, Palomino may even catch up with P4 in clock speed.
