I haven't read the book that you mentioned, but it is difficult for me to believe that the abrupt slowdown in the economy was not related to the election to some extent. Investors far away would be rattled by the election, I believe, and I don't believe people like to invest in a government that is run by Bible salesmen, especially if they don't have a track record as business people, and from what I've read, GWB was involved with a failed business before.
