LOS ALTOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 6, 2001--

Rambus Presents Two Technology Papers at ISSCC Advancements Result in Greater than 25%
Performance Gains to Interface Technologies

Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq:RMBS), the leading provider of high bandwidth chip connection
technologies, disclosed details of recent advances in Direct Rambus(TM) and QRSL(TM) interface
technologies in two presentations at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) being
held from February 5-7, 2001 in San Francisco, Calif.
The first presentation, titled "Circuit Design for a 2.2GB/s Memory Interface", addressed a
high-speed 2.2 Gigabyte per second (GB/s) signaling interface for main memory which uses a DLL
that enables in-system timing calibration with 1.4 degree resolution and uses output drivers with limited
positive feedback to increase voltage margin. Rambus engineers disclosed technical advancements to
the signaling interface demonstrating prototype chips operating at up to 2.6 GB/s in a standard CSP
package. Direct Rambus technology enabled the DRAM industry's highest level of performance to
date -- 1.6GB/s of peak bandwidth from a single device. The Direct Rambus interface achieves its
unprecedented performance through circuit advances and architectural extensions.
The second presentation highlighted a 25% increase in bandwidth of Rambus' QRSL signaling
technology to a transfer rate of 2 Gigabits per second per pin (Gb/s/pin). In addition, the paper
demonstrates the first disclosure of an operational four-slave configuration. Titled, "A 2Gb/s/pin
4-PAM Parallel Bus Interface with Transmit Crosstalk Cancellation & Equalization and Integrating
Receivers," this presentation detailed the design of a 2Gb/s/pin single-ended 4-PAM interface and
showed measured system margins in a test system representing a low-cost consumer environment.
