IMO throughout history gold has been looked upon as money/currency and I think because of this it was never really considered an industrial metal. Platinum and palladium and other precious metals have always been considered industrial metals and as such many industrial uses have been found. I think now that gold is being looked at as something different than it's usual role that there may be many valuable uses yet to be discovered. what is palladium at now 1000.00$/oz and just a couple of years ago wasn't it just 100/200$/oz.
