Elmatador, thanks for the info, i am a layman, not connected to the industry, just an average guy that leans to the high tech side, thusly let me say this about that.
I have been using computers for 15 maybe 20 years back to the compuserve tandy days, etc anyway these days I use the Internet daily for monitoring used equipment websites, including my own and check on info for my stocks,SI, SH, SW, and others.
I have been down the AOL road, the Prodigy road and am presently using a neighborhood ISP with 56K potential but always connected at 28800(I think that is right) anyway I have several friends with and I have used DSL and cable modem(roadrunner)both of these services are mega faster, user friendly, convenient and expensive.
Truthfully, I don't see any comparison between the Dial ups and the DSL or Cable Modem and hey I'm just the average joe blow out here using his computer.
In all honesty I see the future as DSL or Cable Modem, Fiber optics or some combination of all three but I think dial ups will die a slow death as it should probably be, I mean we don't still drive Model Ts do we, or commute to NY/LA on propeller driven airplanes, I suspect DSL etc are the natural evolvement of the medium and will surely replace the older slower less efficent dial ups.
I have also been down the wireless road with Verizon and Sprint and they are a fantastic aide for the stock quotes but are very limited in all other areas and I believe they will remain a gimmick niche for a while, I suspect the future someday will be a dish on every roof, internet connected, 100% wireless....in the meantime what will become of the Paradynes and the Ariels of the world, are they viable stocks...??? is Coppermountain a steal at todays prices...??? I am simply trying to piece together all the pieces so I can buy the right stocks, the ones in the "Path of progress" thanks for your attention and happy trails....
