Freeus,

Happy Birthday! Look for the good that is in your life, not the good that came and went. Life is too short and too much fun to dwell on the woulda, the coulda and the shoulda.

I'm very depressed and have been for some time. I have some cash but that only makes 6.1% andI haven't a clue how to grow what I have back to what I need for the house, etc, we were going to build and do in the next year (when I retire).

Freeus,
I've got 7 patients in my ICU and who right now would be delighted to change places with you.

I see one patient who recently dropped dead at the Westin a few weeks ago. Literally. He was revived by a young man with an automatic defibrillator. He was an investment banker, worth 9 figures. After his cardiac surgery, he had a rocky recovery, but he is now off the ventilator. He smiles at the right times, but neurologically, he's not all there just yet. Maybe someday, he will be.

I'm sure he's thrilled to be alive, and frustrated to be ill. I bet he'd surely change places with you.

I agree with Merlin.

Freeus: "I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet."

Moaning does no one any good, neither the moaner nor the listener. point: I'm part of a one year, phase III trial of some new medications where I'm monitored by a hospital, blood work etc.. Lots of side effects; lesions, hair loss, yada yada. Anyhow I moaned to my sister (who suffers from her own life-threatening ailments); she said "yeah but in four months your trial is over, and you might be well; but I'll have this forever"

That shut me up real fast.

OT/Freeus

Dear Freeus, although the post was not meant for me, I hope you don't mind comments from a lurker who is familiar with your posts here and on Voltaire's thread. My heart goes out to you that your financial investments did not turn out as you expected in 2000. But as bad as your experience seems, there are worse life tragedies out there.

I spent all of 2000 watching someone very close to me fade away little by little each day. All I could do is hold her hand, say encouraging words, and try to make her laugh. Little by little, she lost her dignity, her beauty, and her hope. In the end, her debilitating disease got the best of her. The third week of January 2001, ... she passed away.

Her chance at life here on earth is over. But you are a young woman with your health, career, friends, loved ones, and as I recall <g>, as passion about politics. She loved life, and I think she would trade places with you if given the chance. And she would consider you very lucky to have much of your life ahead of you. With a sound plan and adherence to that plan, over time, you can make it back. And luckily, time is on your side. Good luck to you and happy birthday. May you celebrate many more and may your dreams come true.

freeus,

<<I'm very depressed and have been for some time>>

You've already received some good advice in reply to your birthday status post.

I would like to add: See your Doctor for a physical, and take a copy of that post with you.

It may be your Doctor will recommend an anti-depressant to nudge you up and out of the doldrums. Depression isn't something you just "talk yourself out of". Seek some help.

Best wishes,

Brian
