Very good comments Chris. I can only add my thoughts that that salvation is a "gift" from God and therefore, would hardly be taken back once given by an all knowing God.

Where people get hung up on this is just because they are members of a church does not provide for automatic salvation. I know mixed up people who continually go to the alter to be saved over because they fear that the first time didn't take.

God has a purpose for sin in the life of a born again Christian. It is called "growth."

Regards,

James

I can concur with much of what you say - consistent with scripture - However, assurance for here and now - Isn't that part of salvation's package? Is my alcoholic friend now "unsaved" because of his backsliding...drunkards are lost (so are all liars) in the list in Revelation of those that will be lost - So---by Eternal Security Standard, my friend was never saved?
I have more questions than I have answers.
John Wesley was Arminian in theology. John Calvin was --- well --- Calvinistic in theology.
George Whitefield and John Wesley had these discussions re. this theology and never did resolve it. Two brilliant minds and followers of our Lord Jesus Christ. So---I know we won't "solve" the issue here -- But a worthy discussion.
