As you know, I am a consumer of DRAM, not a producer. I don't deliver any DRAM product, but it is rather obvious that DDR is the direction the industry is headed.

Rambus devotees remind me of the Emperor's New Clothes.

Just so I can set the metrics appropriately, can you tell me if this is one of those multitude of "valuable" posts that you supposedly make?

Scumbria: For two years now you and others have reminded the Rambus partisans again and again that the proof of Rambus success would be measured by the number and variety of systems shipping with the technology inside. As Rambus has slowly achieved some modicum of "success" you and Dan3 and others have ripped at every gain, declaring them "invalid" or "meaningless" or "dead, dead, dead". After the 820 debacle the Rambus bulls on this thread, for the most part, admitted we had a disaster on our hands and sought answers from Rambus and Intel. When it stunk, it stunk and we said so. When earnings last quarter were not quite what many hoped, we said so.

However, when the 840 was successfully launched and now the P4 configuration is out the door, Dell, HP, Gateway, IBM, etc. etc. are shipping Rambus product daily, Samsung is making a ton of money on RDRAM and is setting up to ship more........we can also focus on the specific, documented positives of Rambus technologies and what is being done TODAY to raise revenues and profits for the Company tomorrow.

When Dave and others point out that there is an incredible double standard in place for discussion of DDR as main memory, you seem insulted. Let's discuss DDR EXACTLY as we all discussed RDRAM on the desktop. If we agree to do so, then in comparable terms we are eight weeks after the aborted 820 launch. We, all of us, should be asking hard questions about why the launch has not succeeded. I don't have the time to go back and find all the posts from Carl and you and others about how many DDR systems would be shipping by Feb/01, but they are out there.

C'mon. Be honest. DDR main memory is a failure as of today. There are problems that do not as yet seem solved or solvable. Let's talk about them honestly and openly instead of just saying those of us who can read "are deluding ourselves".
