Tony, from your quote:

<Sun, for instance, is having a terrible time getting yields from TI's UltraSparc III factory.>

Replace "Sun" with "Intel" and "UltraSparc III" with "Itanium," and you'll have the AMDroids turning this rumor into gospel.

Tony, Re : "the new microprocessors alleviate some of the price pressures that Sun is increasingly under"

Assuming the news is true, the price pressure on SUN is just beginning. With McKinley database in the process of being shrunk and .13 expected to be ready in a few quarters, I expect the .13 version of McKinley (Madison) to put serious price (and/or performance) pressure on SUN next year.

The article posted (yesterday ?) mentioned Mckinley at 1.2GHz. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1.8-2.0 GHz part on .13 next year with a much lower cost of production, more scalable and with more IA-64 applications. Right now, however, Itanium is taking a lot of beating in the press and I expect a lot of it to change quickly (hopefully in spring IDF ?).

Ironically, I sold some INTC today and bought some SUNW recently (and wrote some CC)! But, given that my portfolio is still alarmingly weighted towards Intel, I would stick with my decision for a while.
