Hmm... You know, I went and read through that article...
I'm curious about what the heck they are using 980nm
lasers for... GigEthernet is usually 850nm, as is FiberChannel, and SONET apps are usually 1550nm or 1310 nm.
I guess I don't get why NT needed this.

Oh well... BTW, totally agree on the point that you are trying to make, Equipment vendors don't have to own the
laser components. I can only think of one major one that
did, and it just spun it off (LU - Agere).
