You are right. All they can get through now is a back door kind of SS cut. Like taxing it and getting some back that way.
About 10 years or so ago...a person retiring, who paid in for 40 years, got all their money back plus the going rate of interest, in 2.3 years. After that is basically welfare.

In 20 years, people will never come close to getting all the paid in back unless they live to 120.

Something will hit the fan...
