i agree on the current govt. being an improvement on what came before...and i know the desirability of gold ownership is a tradition in India. no Indian wedding without lotsa gold! but at the root of the tradition is the perception of gold as VALUE...and gold's value is always in opposition to government's fiat paper. even if people may not say so, or if it is not generally perceived that way, distrust of the money issued by government is a factor in this tradition imo.
