i remember we were talking about that, but can we really prove that this is the cause? after all the economy was overheating and the merry pranksters raised rates a few times. i was expecting the economy to weaken as well (i'm on record for saying already in late '99 that the big surprise of 2000 would be a sharp deterioration in economic activity, it only came a few months later than i originally thought)...one of my main reasons for this expectation was that it was diametrically opposed to the mainstream economist consensus.
