CSCO, BRCM and AMCC notes....SSB says CSCO a week within it's low for the cycle.

12:43 ET Cisco Systems (CSCO) 30 3/4 -5 (-14%): -- Update -- In note out before the open, Salomon Smith Barney predicts that Cisco is within a week of bottoming out for this cycle; firm strongly recommending that investors use weakness to build positions; sees stock hanging in near-term, then rallying as the economic picture improves.... CSCO shares currently trading just off lows of the day (range 32 13/16 to 30 1/4); volume an enormous 150 mln shares.




12:43 ET Broadcom Fallout : The Broadcom (BRCM) slide in recent trading is creating even more problems for the comm IC stocks: AMCC -6 7/16, VTSS -4 15/16, PMCS -7 3/16, TXCC -4 1/8.




12:27 ET Broadcom (BRCM) 83 -9 1/2: Hearing from sources at BofA Securities that BRCM said at the BofA conference that it would not be able to give as strong upward guidance going forward due to economic conditions; talk of this comment seems to be prompting rumors that they will guide numbers down, which is not what they indicated at the conference.









12:19 ET Applied Micro (AMCC) 49 1/8 -5 15/16 (-10.7%): -- Technical -- A trendline off the Apr/Nov 2000 lows near 50 held in early trading but has recent been taken out leaving little in the way of a retest of the Nov low at 45 7/8. Next support of interest comes into play in the 42 area.
