"Life" does not equate to "human person," though you speak as though a microscopic cluster of cells were a teeny weeny person. It is a potential first stage in a complex process that under certain circumstances creates a seven pound, sentient human being. This is such a simple point.

I understand that among those who hold the metaphysical belief that at the moment the egg and sperm unite, there enters into the process an entity called, or akin to, a "soul," it isn't important that the cells aren't a person.

And i understand that they want to force those who don't share these metaphysical beliefs to live by them.

Incorrect? Say who? You?

You are trying to tell me that because something has the potential to develop into a living being, it is therefore alive. It doesn't take an abacus to determine that this is not reasonable.

Spontaneous abortion does occur and there is a reason....we just may not understand it. For some reason the mother's body elects to end the course.

Who says there's a reason? Maybe there is no reason at all. And if the mother's body can elect to end the course, why shouldn't the mother's conscious decision be able to elect the same course?

First you are going to have to prove to me what life is and when it begins. You are going to have to explain what specific event occurs after that cell divides that signals the start of life.

Do that and you have a chance to make your point. Trouble is (for you) is that you can't.

That's no trouble at all for me. I don't know. Neither do you. Our not knowing where life begins does not make your assertion that life begins with conception any more credible.

There is no hole here. A fertilized egg is not alive. An infant is. Somewhere in between, what was not alive becomes alive. We do not know exactly where this point is. This is no surprise - there are many things we do not know. That does not justify an attempt to create the illusion of certainty by declaring an arbitrary opinion to be truth.
