Thanks, Mani.

And if I'm asked in the future, I still intend to nominate the moderated AMD thread for the "Best Moderated Thread" category. It's done well.

Which reminds me, I think it was a little more than two years ago that I suggested a thread moderation feature. But quite different from what got implemented. I sent a very detailed write-up with benefits, risks, and costs, and exactly how it should be implemented (moderators accountable to admins, thread suspensions rather than terminations, etc), then waited a long time, with no reply (same happened to so many of my suggestions pre-Shannon), then put a bug in the ear of a member or two who I knew had management's ear, and we finally got moderation.

My solution likely wouldn't have been perfect and would've required tweaking, but now that I'm not an admin, I'd like to say that thread moderation has, for the most part, been a big disappointment for me. It's been used to filter out people who the admins should've been notified about. And it's been used in ways I really didn't think it should be used.

I could be all wrong on this one (it's a tough issue), but I've always had a real problem with the "Agree with me or you're out" nature of how moderation often gets used. I learn more from those who disagree with me than from those who agree with me. I have to see both sides, even if I think one of the sides is wrong. Otherwise, I don't get a chance to correct my own thinking if it's wrong. Not that that ever happens. <g>

IMO, though, the moderated AMD thread (and a handful of others) have turned out how I envisioned it. I don't think moderation is a big failure. I just think it needs more tweaking. Shannon and I were recently discussing the feature and how to deal with it, but I decided to try to unofficially encourage better use of the feature, hopefully with some success.
