Scumbria,

I spent several years working as a teacher at a private school

Yet another profession?

I now make 6X my teacher's salary. Obviously our economy values computers much more than children.

If you have skills that you say you have in design of microprocessors, don't you think that you are a little overqualified to be a teacher? Or look at it this way. Just take your current salary, add 100 to 200% overhead (for school building, supplies, administrators, lawyers, unions). Now take this number and divide it by say 25 pupils in your class. Do you think this level of funding is realistic? Can parents (with average income) with say 2 children pay for this school?

My mother and my sister are both teachers, and I know it doesn't take a rocket scientist to be a good teacher, especially, my mother, who was an excellent teacher on the elementary level, and she didn't even complete college.

Joe
