Did you read the header? Did you notice that this was not a thread for debate of the issue? Or are you here because one of the participants here complained about threats made against her by one of your friends on another thread and that friend was suspended?

Those who oppose abortion believe those fertilized eggs are human life and they are trying to prevent you from taking that life.

Are you comfortable with the idea that a group of people who hold a belief has the right to use the coercive machinery of the state to impose that belief on those who do not share it?

<<<Those who oppose abortion believe those fertilized eggs are human life and they are trying to prevent you from taking that life. I understand the arguments. >>>

In the case of very early abortions, clearly their belief is a metaphysical one. To oppose RU486, they assert that a microscopic fertilized egg is a "human being." The only definition of "human being" that doesn't distinguish between a potential one (a "blueprint") and a physical one is one dependent on a metaphysical concept -- that is, an item of religious dogma.

In this country we have freedom of religion. We aren't supposed to force others to accept the precepts of ours however positive we are we are right and they are wrong.

I realize I addressed this same subject last night, in a post to Thurston:

"Life" does not equate to "human person," though you speak as though a microscopic
cluster of cells were a teeny weeny person. It is a potential first stage in a complex
process that under certain circumstances creates a seven pound, sentient human being.
This is such a simple point.

I understand that among those who hold the metaphysical belief that at the moment the
egg and sperm unite, there enters into the process an entity called, or akin to, a "soul,"
it isn't important that the cells aren't a person.

And i understand that they want to force those who don't share these metaphysical
beliefs to live by them."
