Amy,

As you know, my wife is from the Soviet Union. The contention that Reagan's military spending put them under is ludicrous. The country was bankrupt after 80 years of stifling Government corruption and oppression. Gorbachev has said that Reagan's threats made it harder to implement reform, because it gave the hard liners some credibility.

Why is Bush hurrying up his tax cut? Because he is afraid the interest rate cuts will kick in, and he won't get credit for the "recovery".

I hope his tax cut makes him feel better about his daddy's broken promise!

Have you seen this site? It provides a good insight into just how corrupt this President is.

Amy,

The USA spends way too much in military defense spending.

In the last year of JFK's budged the US spend 9.2% of GDP on military. The last Reagan budget spent 5.6% of GDP on military. In 1999, we were down to 3%. I am not sure what frame of reference you go by when you make a statement like the one you just made.

Comparing US budget to the budget of Russia and China is ludicrous. We have an army of volunteers (or mercenaries) that we have to pay in US dollars, based on the the cost of living in the US. The soldiers in China and Russia are conscripts, and you could just as well call them prisoners. They work for food and clothing, that is purchased based on Russian standards and at Russian prices.
