SuSE confirms US staff cuts

By: Andrew Orlowski in San Francisco Posted: 08/02/2001 at 01:19 GMT

SuSE is laying-off ten staff from its US operation, according to the company's PR agency. Rumours have circulated today that most of SuSE's US operation was being wound-down, but Xenia Von Wedel of the Terpin Group told us that ten redundancies were being made in the marketing and support areas. Developers would not be affected, she said.

But then again, she told LinuxToday earlier that no one was being laid off at all. And she couldn't rule out more redundancies as part of a restructuring: "There might be more to come," she told The Register.

"We're concentrating on Level 3 support, on IBM and on the high end support, and all the rest is a covered by partnerships," she said. No redundancies are expected in Europe, she said, which she attributed to the relative strength of the European economy. SuSE has 60 staff in Oakland Ca., and Indiana.

A formal statement would be tomorrow, she said.®
