They compared fuel cell efficiency to a simple-cycle combustion turbine which has a different economic application (keep in mind efficiency <> cost, it's one factor). This was very misleading.

Nat gas fired combined cycle units -- those where the exhaust gases from the combustion turbine are used to power a boiler which drives a steam turbine can attain efficiencies of greater than 50% ...

The thing that kills fuel cells as a viable alternative is the very high capital cost on a per kw basis -- I'll link you some numbers on where these costs are projected to go.

Everyone says they can lower these costs if the units were mass-produced -- the open question is how much. I think there are a number of fundametal limiting factors on how cheaply they can be produced -- let me find the link ...
