Strbe Re..When Brian Mulroney was prime minister, his government lobbied to get the U.S. government to protect its portion of the joint wilderness. The land was put off limits for oil companies, but only temporarily; new legislation can open it for business. You have to realize that Canada currently has a surplus of energy, especially electricity, and has an interest in trying to make sure we keep on buying. In addition as far as I know, the oilfields don't extend into Canada's area. But you can bet that if Canada had a shortage in oil and Montreal had rolling blackouts for months on end, that the word "temporary" in your above statement would apply in a hurry.
