More on BRCD by Herb
Ashok Kumar of Piper (who loved Ancor before it was bought by QLogic) out with a spin piece defending QLogic. He says QLogic has the "incumbent" seat with Sun and he stresses that QLogic remains Sun's only OEM fibre switch supplier. Indeed it does, but from my talk with the head of Sun's networking unit last night, OEM in THAT biz for Sun doesn't mean what it once did. Her point (as I note in my column, to the right) was that Sun's customers want to pick and choose, and that Brocade has the leading share AND that Sun will be adding MORE suppliers AND that QLogic is for customers who want to buy off Sun's price list. Increasingly, she says, they do not. The tug-of-war continues.

No link since in columnist conversation.

Always good to hear that SUNW acknowledges BRCD leadership position and working with them. Kumar has always been beating up BRCD as it doubled from March.
