I agree, a lot of it is stylistic, considering the relative growth of New Age spirituality. To a lot of people, things like the Stations of the Cross, focusing on Christ's suffering, seems morbid. On the other hand, it is hard to separate the aspect of sensibility and underlying belief. Things like scapulars and garish pictures of Christ with a crown of thorns are likely to seem wrong regardless of orthodoxy, supposing a more modern sensibility. However, use of the rosary mainly depend on understanding and believing the idea that Mary has a privileged position among the saints, and that saints may engage in intercessory prayer for us, it is not inherently offensive to the modern sensibility. Many things entangle both aspects, like the Stations of the Cross.

Thanks for the good thoughts. Back atcha!

what appears so bogus to teens is the trappings

It seems that more churches are realizing this and are providing new "trappings" for its teens and young adults in the form of contemporary music and a more spiritual message vs. the rules & regulations of earlier times.
