Strbe Re..Harry.. I dont believe we'd cut off our nose to spite our face.

Canada already has oil platforms drilling in the Artic, as well as the development of the tar sands. How enviromentally safe are they? People talk about no logging in the Northwest, but where do you suppose most of our lumber comes from. Aren't your spotted owls just as endangered as ours?

the oil companies arent concerned about the shortages.. they want to make a quick buck - who cares about the natives, or the environment.. theres money in it for them and if it harms the planet or that region for hundreds of years.. they wont care.

I certainly can agree with that except I really do believe the oil companies care about how great the shortage is; as the greater the shortage, the more money they can make. In truth, it is up to the people to determine if and under what conditions the oil companies can drill. The big question is, under what conditions will the drilling be done under and when. The oil companies do care about enviromental damage in that it will limit their access to future development. To say companies don't care at all is just as much of a lie as to say the companies first priority is the enviroment. I would say that the companies first priority is the oil, but they have a vested interest in the enviroment; not to the same degree the as the enviromentalist, but they do care
