Yes, used task manager. Hitting End Task didn't end shut down BE, as it apparently wasn't up, except that I couldn't make it appear, either.

FWIW, had a similar problem with NeoTrace Pro, a tracer program I used both with W95 and W98. NTP would not close on W2000 and it ended up causing a crash (memory dump). I notified NeoWorx as Neotrace has long been a standby of mine to check my internet connections. So far they don't have a fix and neither did Dell's W2000 tech support.
