In general, I find broad attacks of the "liberals are stupid" type more offensive that "your mother wears army boots" insults. The latter are more personal, of course, but it's hard to take personal insults seriously as argument. My Catholic parents are very anti abortion. Mostly I know to steer away from the subject with them, but my father has expressed attitudes very much akin to the "humor" in shootie's leadoff, and I know for sure he wasn't trying to be funny. . I think the attitude that women must pay for their sins runs pretty deep in certain circles. If you throw the "life begins at conception" line, popular with the new AG, there aren't a lot of options left.
