from briefing.com

14:31 ET JDS Uniphase (JDSU) 47 1/4 -4 9/16 (-8.8%): Goldman Sachs suggests that while near term pressure may persist, a move to the mid to low 40's would present a decent buying opportunity. Firm considers valuation attractive with negative news already priced into the stock. Channel checks revealed a difficult January but if company revises down it is not expected to be material.

Cisco is #1 or #2 in every market it is in including IP telephony.

If you're in the wrong market, it doesn't matter.

Also it has much more cash and cash flow than JDSU/SDLI combined.

Perhaps they should use some of it on R&D.

I don't see this as lose/win situation, ie., loss for Cisco and win for JDSU. Given that (1) JDSU is either directly or indirectly a supplier to Cisco, and (2) other JDSU customers, NT and LU who are also Cisco's competitors will be buying less from JDSU because they will do more in house -- especially so after buying JDSU factory, -- JDSU will depend even more on sales to Cisco. We're on same team, I believe.

I don't see it as win/lose for JDSU/CSCO, either. It's CSCO vs. NT, ALA, Siemens, JNPR, CIENA. . . And JDSU sells to them all.
