That bogus "commodity" come-on gets my goat as well. Sheeesh -- you really think the Justice Dep't would have given a hoot about JDSU/SDLI if it was simply a "commodity" business? It's just silly and a desperate attempt to get people scared. As if everyone and their mothers was producing pump modules, fiber amplifiers and tunable lasers in their basements.
