Three touches each on the upper and lower trendline is ideal (what's the saying, two points is a line but three is a trend?). I'll usually take the line with the most touches if there's more than one option. I'll allow piercing and a little sloppiness, as long as the integrity remains. I also watch volume, which is half the equation and should never be ignored. There are exceptions to everything, of course. On an H&S, for example, the trendline often starts off the right shoulder rather than the head. Hope that helps.
