Brother Lakers re: 3XXX IS-95B data @ 64K on 1X

I don't think you'll ever see the IS95B data feature implemented on the US carrier's networks due to the fact that B data requires aggregating the 14.4 channels to reach 64K....making the network less efficient (the main reason the operators are going to 1X is for voice capacity increase - not data). Most operators are using many of the "B" standard voice enhancements that provides better call performance in handoff, better standby time, etc....but again, they don't care for the B data feature (voice is still the revenue driver).

What does this mean to your 3100/3300 based phone? You will limited to 14.4 - even on the 1X network (but you have packet data in addition to circuit switched). They do not want a 3XXX phone running higher data rates because their network suffers.

To get the higher data speeds you will need to upgrade to a 5105 or 5100 based product (or gasp - a 1X product based upon someone elses chip). Even with a 5XXX product, the operators may limit many of their WAP services to 14.4 and let the packet nature of their 1X network provide a better user experience.

Again, IMO the 1X network upgrades are mostly about voice capacity increases and not data. Yes, the operator gets some marketing mileage out of deploying "3G" - but have not clearly identified which data billing model they will use....that is my next mission.

I guess what I'm saying is - DON'T GO ON YOUR HUNGER STRIKE ! ....I don't want to lose you B^)

So Lakers has assured me that when Verizon implements 1x, my MSM3100 IS-95B capability will work on the Verizon net. I'll hold him to that.

If they don't I'm gonna start a "I want my 64K" hunger strike. lol
