ild, I like both of the Japanese CEFs here. I also like the Yen. But my favorite way to play Japan is still the MSDW Asia Pacific Fund, which is nearly 50% Japan and sells at a 20% discount. This is one I recommended in that infamous Kiplinger's article in 1995 and it has served me well over the years by going down enough to buy it and then bouncing enough for me to get out. <g> The only negative is that Morgan Stanley used to do a lot of those rip off rights offerings. They were nearly lynched a couple of years ago and have not tried any more of that crap lately. But you always have to keep a hairy eyeball on them.

I also like Japan OTC for a different representation. It is only at a 12% discount, which is kind of low for this one, but it is a good long term holding.
