Bill. Re: I would rather pay down the natl. debt (better for the long run) or take a smaller tax cut now etc. etc.

That's how we are being brain washed. We are having a big surplus because the GVT takes too much from us and then we would rather pay down the natl. debt with it which GVT ALONE created.
I am for paying down the debt also. But like Greenspan mentioned in his last visit to the hill, you can only pay down so much of the natl. debt without creating trouble. You just can't pay down too much at any one time. It has to be done over time. This big surplus cannot stay on the hill. It would vanish in a hurry by big spending increases.

BTW. AG. mentioned that President Bush's proposed tax cut is really only an average tax cut. So why not take an average tax cut instead of a small one. Of course, like usual, the Dems just don't like the idea of an across the board tax cut. They are still of the mind set that most of the money should go to people that don't pay income taxes. They call it distribution. I call it socialism. I am for socialism for people that can't work. But that's about it. I am not talking about healthcare etc. That's another matter.
Now the Dems come up with this wonderful solution. Don't give money back to people that earn it but don't need it. Let's reduce Soc.Sec. taxes for people that can't get tax money back because they have not paid income taxes.

The majority of the people are now for a tax cut. If they don't pay much taxes, they will gladly take the money and buy a Muffler. gg. I can remember the time when I would have been happy to get money back for a Muffler for my used car. But I guess Tom Daschle was never in that position or maybe just plain forgot about it.

Wow. This was a great day for the DOW. Maybe the NAS will see something like this one of these days.
