I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes but maybe we tell the Saudis that the US will keep Sadam in check as long as you do what we ( US) want.

Do you really believe that the US stands in the way of an Islamic Bank? Would you want Sadaam, Uday or Quasy as a "partner?"

Greenspan is not as independent as you thought since he went along with Bush's tax cuts.

He's in fireman mode.

At best he's lukewarm on the tax cuts. He knows they'll have very little short effect. He also know the "surpulus" they're based on could evaporate in an instant.

The only explanation that I have for the change in Uncle Al's stance and rhetoric re: tax cuts is that this situation is much worse than we know. The tax cut plan offers up "hope" and "optimism"...a little smoke and mirrors while he attempts to put out the real fire by suffocating it with paper which only adds more fuel.

He won't have a problem with the sock puppet if he needs to bring him into line.
