Thanks for the feedback. Recent press releases do not mention "faulty" chips as being the reason Siemens went to Intel, so the earlier reports seem questionable at this point.

The German company wants to ensure a steady stream of components for its phones after supplier shortages last year forced it to miss some production goals. It's hoping to boost its market share by supplying network gear, as well as phones, for next-generation, or universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS), networks being built worldwide.

"The supply agreement with Intel ensures that we can meet market demand for Internet capable mobile devices," said board member Rudi Lamprecht in a statement.
